Since they noticed I was following them, they started going through some difficult trails. A Wrangler Unlimited was scared to follow us, then it decided to be the last one following. That Wrangler totally skipped 2 trails.
I was alone in the off road park as a HUMMER driver and I wasn't familiar with trails. so I kept a distance from them and followed them:

Later, I met Purdue Off Road Club members. I played with them the rest of the day:

:thumbs:It was a good day.

Club members told me that when climbing, I should use either 4Lo or 4Hi.

I got stuck twice--sand trails, got a lot of scratches on my H3. The front end is slightly out of alignment. The rear mud flaps popped out. And if I didn't install UCP, I would've broken the underneath of my H3 today.

I think I'm screwing up my HUMMER.:horns: Yeah!

You should go out with some other HUMMER owners. More than likely you should be in 4 low for most of the climbs I saw as well as those rocky descents. Scratches for the most part are just in the clear coat and will buff out. More serious scratches - well, that just comes with going off road. It isn't a sign of screwing up.

I really recommend you hook up with the guys in Florida or Indiana and learn a few things from them. It's amazing what you can learn in just a few minutes from other Hummer owners. PM Paladine71 for example, or just post up something here on the forum to meet anyone in your area.

My hummer suddenly became much more capable by wheeling with other hummer owners that have experience. I feel a lot more confident on the trail following jeeps now because the so cal guys taught me how to wheel. Wheeling a hummer isnt like wheeling a jeep, different lines and approaches need to be taken to get to the same place. Same goes for jeeps following a hummer group, if they follow our lines they may have a harder time then us because of a different vehicle setup.

While on the topic of learning when I go to moab my goal is to really start to get comfortable with the BTM technique. Im sure Alex and the blacksheep can help me there

Try to keep her a little intact over the next month and we'll lend you some experience when we get to the Badlands at the end of April. Feel free to PM any questions that you have, we've spoken before.

I like wheeling with Jeeps. Most of the ones I wheel with are very capable built rigs and it is a lot of fun watching them tackle obstacles.

What Alrock said. I would strongly recommend wheeling a few times with some other Hummer owners. Wheeling with other makes & models is great and certainly safer than going it alone, but you have some real advantages when wheeling with other Hummer owners:

 1. They know the capabilites of your rig and won't push you to break it
 2. They can help introduce you to the 4X4 features specific to your truck
 3. They are likely to have parts, tools, and recovery/repair knowledge specific to your rig

I commend you for getting out there and trying wheeling. That's what these Hummers are designed for. Don't worry about getting stuck; I was with a group of H1's yesterday and we got two of them stuck. It happens.

Looks like you had a great time and found out what wheelin is all about. Jeeps / Hummers, it doesn't matter, the point is enjoying the outdoor responsibaly and spending the day with great people. Whenever you want to wheel with us your welcome to tag along.

I often wheel on my own. By using the radio you can hear other wheelers nearby. You can call them and join up with them (or keep them up to date where you are in case of trouble)
