There is a GREAT Vet jsut outside of town as well. Bring your current med conditions, current vet info, and vaccinations along. We take out our dog to the local vet there if we hike or bike for the day. If they get along with other dogs, they'll give your dog pleanty of shaded play time with other dogs...or have their own run for teh day if requested. Eitehr way, if you have you dog's info with you, if medical attention is needed for your little guy, they'll have the info ahead of time.

The slockrock and cactus are the 2 culprits your dog may find at some point. I "think" it's pretty early for Rattler's this time of the year. Maybe Doug can comment more on tihs??

We'll have our Black Lab with. He's one of the family...and without him, it's not a vacation.

Great to know this about the vet and boarding for the day. We may make use of them for a day or two. We are planning on bringing at least one of the wieners (we got six of them).

Just to repeat.....
For Sunday, meet at the Outpost at 8:30; leave at 9:00. Fuel up on the way to the trail....

It's about 25 miles to the start of the trail. This is all pavement from the Outpost to the turn off to HRR.

There is plenty of room at the start for everyone to air down. I did it with full air pressure (approx. 36 lbs), but it was rough and bumpy. So airing down will help to smooth out the ledges, ruts, and Jeep parts scattered on the trail.:giggle:

Once we finished HRR, we jump onto Spring Canyon which is a very decent dirt road, then down the switchbacks to the Green River for lunch.

Our return is optional and we can talk about it during lunch.

One option is to do HRR the normal way (we're doing it backward on the way to the lunch);

And on the way back, Long Canyon is very close, we can take that back vs. hwy 313, or we can jump on Gemini Bridges trail and take that back to 191.

Welcome to Utah where ya'll can shoot a coyote anywhere outside of city limits and BLM campgrounds. In fact the bounty has just been doubled to (I believe) $50.00 for a set of ears. Also, welcome to Utah where you can:
1. If an adult, carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle, so long as you own the vehicle or have permission of the owner of the vehicle.
2. Without a concealed handgun permit, you can open carry a handgun in a holster, so long as it is two actions away from firing. (For a semi that means a loaded magazine but nothing in the pipe so that the first action is to rack the slide, and the second action is to pull the trigger.
3. WITH a concealed weapons permit from ANY state in the USA, you can carry open with one in the pipe, or concealed.

And chances are there will be at least two handguns on the trail. I know for a fact if I'm on the trail there will be one.:giggle: And pretty sure there will be another if Alex is running....

Great to know this . I've been carrying on my non-resident Utah permit for years. Just couldn't in Wiskonsin till last Nov 1. We have always been able to open carry but usually can result in someone wetting their pants and calling leo. What is the typical reaction in Moab when someone open carries in town? I assume being Utah , its much more accepted.

We may get there in time to participate on Sunday morn. I plan to leave home Fri morn and make Grand Junction or farther west by Sun night. With an early Sun start we could be there in time.

How far are you going to travel on Friday? I'm leaving Friday morning and plan to make it to Glenwood Springs, CO but I am 100 miles closer than you and tend to drive too far each day.

Only thing I don't like about the drive to Moab is driving west of Grand Junction in the dark. That place is erie desolate with not a light anywhere to be seen. Here in the great midwest we have many security lights on farms anywhere you look, in Utah, nothing!

Open carry in town will raise some eyebrows...have to remember, this area is full of European tourists as well as east coast (MA, NY, NJ, etc.) tourists and the sight of a gun scares makes them skid mark their panties. Out in the desert...no problem. Never had anyone say squat to me out there.

But if you have your non-res UTah, just carry concealed.

We are planning to leave Madison Fri 9-10am but are stopping in Nevada IA to see my son for a few hours. Then we may shoot for Kearny or Lexington for the night. Or, we may drive straight through to Grand Junction or Moab and get a room. If it was me and the wiener , we'd be on the road at 5am in the wind and hammer down and sleep at a rest area when needed. What color is your rig? We may catch up . Mine is a dark blue 3 with a jerry can on the spare.

What are the rules in Utah regarding having a rifle in a motor vehicle? Must it be cased and unloaded or can it be in a gun rack? Here in Wiskonsin it no longer has to be cased but can not be loaded. Used to be illegal to even lean an uncased rifle against your truck in the woods.

Rifles, shotguns, and muzzle loaders are not allowed to be carried in a vehicle while loaded.

I would just stick with a handgun. Unless the zombies arise, no need for a long gun. (And most of the zombies will leave with the Jeep safari participants.)

I'll watch for you but you likely won't catch me, I'm leaving at 0400 on Friday and will stay somewhere in western Colorado, probably Glenwood Springs. I hope to be in Moab early in the afternoon on Saturday, I enjoy seeing all of the built trucks in Moab on the last day of EJS.

I'm one of the token Jeep drivers in the group, Red Rubicon Unlimited with an Iowa plate that reads INFIDL.

Have fun On Sunday's run...I should be at the Outpost catching up with Nav by the time you guys get back in!

Solar passed her pre Moab checkup. Thought it might be time for brake work, but not!

Oil change, tires rotated and balanced, new air filter, driveline service and front/rear diff.

Classic HUMMER service gave me a brand new Silverado to drive and it was all good!
It didn't have any step or rail and the guys had a good time laughing watching me to trying to climb up there in a straight skirt and heels! Lol

Just need to work on my wardrobe!

Can't wait to see everyone!

Truck is in the air still, found a slight water pump leak. Good ole parts warranty. Might have it back tomorrow, at the latest Monday. Once I get it back, it's time to pack. Cannot wait. I am so excited and still just over a week out

Only if you're having issues with the transmission or if you are way overdue. Moab isn't going to be harder on your transmission than anything else you've been doing recently.

Just had 5 new Goodyear Duratracs put on yesterday. What a difference. The Yoko Geolander MTs were getting way to rough and noisey. They still have about 40% tread left but I didnt want to run them anymore. The 3 is so smooth now and the only rumble is the exhaust sounding so sweet. Should make for a nice drive to Moab. Can't wait to leave.

Nice! You will like them. I've put quite a few miles on my duratracs and now I can feel the "roughness" they will last a while though
