Got it. No more piking now, the list is final.
You still may be adding Kat & I to the list. Hotel reservations have been made, but we still can't commit.
Anything related to the upcoming sale of our income property will have to take precedence (and in accordance to Murphy's Law, this probably is more likely than not)!

We're really hoping to see 'ya all!

Cheers,
~Frank

Are we allowed to bring pets on the trails at moab? We were thinking of bringing one of our dachshunds with us on this trip. Its ok with the place we are staying at but I read about some trails not permitting pets. He rides in a crate strapped down to the deck behind the front seats. Bringing him along helps lessen the load for our dog sitter.

As long as you stay out of the back country, National Park trails you are ok. Basically, all the trails you will be on will be BLM managed trails so dogs are ok.

If you decide to take a day and visit Arches, dogs are ok on the main roads (paved) and can be walked on the main roads. They cannot be taken on any walking trails or up to any of the arches. Same with Canyonlands; except you can take a dog down Shafer trail to the Potash road, or up from the potash road to the main road inside Canyonlands park. (More on that if you are interested.)

But...be careful with them out here. Last week there was a dog in one of the campgrounds; chained to the motorhome, with the owners inside watching TV that it is believed to have become coyote stew.:whaa:

As of now I think we will bring him along. He never lets me out of his site if he can help it. We have a doggie backpack for him and he's never off a leash unless he's in our
backyard or in the house. Thanks for the reply.
Here in the peoples republic of Madison, coyotes have taken small dogs right out of back yards. I have seen them in my neighborhood occasionally. We are on the edge of town. Some of them have lost the fear of humans. Them varments can survive anywhere.

Welcome to Utah where ya'll can shoot a coyote anywhere outside of city limits and BLM campgrounds. In fact the bounty has just been doubled to (I believe) $50.00 for a set of ears. Also, welcome to Utah where you can:
1. If an adult, carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle, so long as you own the vehicle or have permission of the owner of the vehicle.
2. Without a concealed handgun permit, you can open carry a handgun in a holster, so long as it is two actions away from firing. (For a semi that means a loaded magazine but nothing in the pipe so that the first action is to rack the slide, and the second action is to pull the trigger.
3. WITH a concealed weapons permit from ANY state in the USA, you can carry open with one in the pipe, or concealed.

And chances are there will be at least two handguns on the trail. I know for a fact if I'm on the trail there will be one.:giggle: And pretty sure there will be another if Alex is running....

Will everyone who is arriving on Saturday or before be running the first Sunday? (Since we are leaving in the AM, I'm assuming those arriving on Sunday will not be running.)

There are reports of bears in the caves along the Dome Plateau trail.

We'll be there on the 5th some time. The 5th, 6th we have a ton of stuff going on, but after that it's play time for us.

So I am hoping to run with you guys on Sunday as well.

There is a GREAT Vet jsut outside of town as well. Bring your current med conditions, current vet info, and vaccinations along. We take out our dog to the local vet there if we hike or bike for the day. If they get along with other dogs, they'll give your dog pleanty of shaded play time with other dogs...or have their own run for teh day if requested. Eitehr way, if you have you dog's info with you, if medical attention is needed for your little guy, they'll have the info ahead of time.

The slockrock and cactus are the 2 culprits your dog may find at some point. I "think" it's pretty early for Rattler's this time of the year. Maybe Doug can comment more on tihs??

We'll have our Black Lab with. He's one of the family...and without him, it's not a vacation.
