H3T Hood louver

The plastic tabs on my hood louver finally broke off. I made up my mind when the louver came off it was staying off. The unfortunate part about that fact is now I have a dozen holes in the hood I have to deal with. Thoughts go from welding them up to cutting out a section and having real hood louvers cut into the hood ($$). Not really a fan of those riveted plates. Oh well...

I stuck mine back down with some gorilla double-sided tape. It’s still sticking so far.

I have the runcool hood louver on my H3 and I love it. It does actually expell heat from the engine bay. Not really sure if it has any real effect on engine tempature though. Also the Jeep guys can't make fun of you for having a fake louver. However, I didn't pay for mine, it came with it when I bought the truck, so I am not sure if worth the expense. While I didn't install my Louver, I helped my friend waysub install his runcool louver and it was pretty easy, not worth paying a shop to do it. Main things you need are a 4 1/2 cutting wheel, a file, and a rivit gun. There are also plenty of videos out there showing how its done. Here is an H3 specific video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-g-4BkwCtI

After a small fender bender compliments of my daughter, I left mine off and welded up the holes.

Not sure if someone has mentioned this yet but.... this was deemed a safety recall by GM and your dealer should cover the install of a new one. There is a TSB out on this, and they did my truck. The idea was that if this flew off while driving on the highway it could cause a road hazard and so they did the recall for the tabs.

I know full well about the recall. I'm not going to trust any dealership to hand my keys over to. That's the bottom line for me.

The dealership fix involves a whole tube of epoxy. They never want that thing to come off. It took my hours to heat and scrape the epoxy off.

When I had mine done, took them about three minutes and another ten for a free bath.

I think it's a rinky-dink fix and not worthy for a solution by a big auto company. A better re-design would've been better but we know there was no more investment going in to the Hummer brand at that point. I think the run cool louver is heading in the right direction for a mod but I'm not quite sold on it yet.

Reloader took his OEM louver and cut slits in the vertical sides (that face the driver). He also cut holes in the hood to allow heat to escape. He thinks this is helping him keep the under hood temps down.

Others have drilled the louver into the hood. Measure it properly, use nice hardware, and it looks good.

I think that's a good idea for your Arizona weather. The one part I think about is if you do have louvers I think some type of baffle system is needed to divert water when the weather gets wet or snowy.
