Broken Front Differential Mount?

Dealer says I have a broken front differential mount. They want $800 to fix and say the part itself is $500. Is there another name for this part? I tried looking it up on Rock Auto to see if this is something I can do myself. Anyone have any experience with this?

It is on a 2007 H3.

I think you are correct. I feel pretty silly. Looks like the place I wanted to order from just doesn't carry it under any name.

I did some searches and it seems that it is probably the bushing and not the actual crossmember, but GM only sells it as one piece?

I saw there are a few aftermarket ones? Does anyone have any recommendations? Preferably one with the bush in already pressed in. Also, how difficult is this to swap out? I'm fairly capable, but never done one of these.

vader2,

The H3 cross member is available!

The install is a relatively simple install and can be done with regular hand tools.

If interested send me a private message with name, address and phone and which cross member design you have. I will send a PayPal invoice when unit is ready to ship.

Thanks for your interest!

Take a look in the sponsors section on here for Preferred Chassis Fabrication, you're looking to get a Scorpworks crossmember. It's a complete unit and it is rebuilt better than the old ones, Dwaine fixes any cracks and reinforces the mounting points, and it has a much more durable bushing installed.

Here's the direct link: http://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/for...H3T-Scorpworks-Bushing-Front-Diff-Crossmember

This is essentially the same thing I did at home. It is the way. Save yourself future headaches.

looks like Scorpworks crossmember is the way to go. It looks like there are 2 different designs for the crossmember. What is the easy way to tell which one I need?

Doesn't really matter honestly, they both bolt up the same, and Dwaine welds on the mounting tab for the under-carriage protection that isn't present on the second version. It'll be more of a personal desire for one very the other.

Personally I think the first version is stronger overall, but that's just my perception, no idea if it's true.

I did the Outfitter Design for the front diff bushings. The cross member replacement was easy. The front diff bushings require a Saturday or Sunday but are fairly easy too. It just takes a good bit of disassembling of the front end to get to the front diff locations but well worth the time and labor.

I made some outboard bushings for a customer, using some off-the-shelf urethane bushings ($20)...

This truck had a Rancho kit so the crossmember bushing was already addressed. However, I'm sure one could devise a similar fix for the crossmember bushing (I think a few guys have already made their own).

After seeing 4speed post this up about a year ago I made my own and they have been working fine for about 6-8months now with no issues.... it was like $18 for the bushings $2 for some big a$$ washers and $20 for a shop to turn them down to size on a lathe
