Philips X-treme Vision headlamps on rockauto.com

I noticed that my headlights are looking a bit dim, so I decided to get a new set. I've liked (never loved) the Sylvania bulbs but their short shelf life and high price are not attractive.

Rockauto.com has these bulbs for the H3 at about $17/bulb but there's a $15 rebate off of a pair. With tax, shipping, 5% discount (code 411272035149300) and rebate they will net out about $24 for the pair. These are the brightest/highest rated Philips bulbs and are often compared to the well reviewed Osram bulbs.

Not hoping for miracles but just a nicer set of bulbs for the tired bulbs in my H3.

(Here's the Amazon link but the rebate is NOT available if purchased through Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Philips-9008-...2304-9-1-145-61-1-0&sr=1-5&ymm=2007:hummer:h3)

Are they're any of the x-treme vision bulbs that will work in the h3's fog lights

i searched all over town for the phillips bulbs a few weeks ago. couldnt find any so i got the silverstar ultras in a pinch... also had a rebate with those but id like a set of the 130 phillips bulbs.
Cash.... 9140s and 9145s should fit if they have either of those. Ones 40w and the others 45w so others might bring up excess heat buildup in the small fog housing. My 5900K bulbs blew out and I finally ran through all my spares after several years but I believe the fogs I was running were 42w and didn't have a problem...

I, too, would like to replace both heads and fogs with something brighter & whiter. I'm just a bit leary about lifespan; since our H3 has the DRL system, the heads are on pretty much all the time. I've heard that the brighter/whiter bulbs only last about a year regardless of brand.

I usually get two years from the brighter bulbs which is tough with what Sylvania charges. That's one reason I liked this deal as the bulbs are a good deal

So are they as good as the Silverstars?

I know from experience on the H3 and on my last Silverado, I easily got two years, even with the DRLs. Can't say on my '15 since it has just been a little of a year.

Well, I just put a pair of the Xtreme Vision in my H2. I absolutely can't tell any difference from the stock ones at all. [emoji34]

Yeah, I think I'm going to hold out for LED. Jeep guys are running them and seem happy. Only thing I hear about them is they don't throw as far.

Just put them on but haven't looked at night yet.

The experts (geeks) on the lighting forums bash the Silverstars in that to achieve the desired Kelvin color that some light frequencies are blocked by a bulb coating, yielding a lower net light output. I figured the $20 on these bulbs was a decent risk.

Not expecting big results like OEM HIDs or effective LEDs, but if they work well then I'm happy.

Reviving an old thread here.

Alrock, can you provide an update on your experience with those bulbs? I have not been happy with the brightness of the stock bulbs and have been looking at some replacement bulbs only without doing any kind of HID or LED conversion. I've heard that PIAA makes a decent bulb, but are as costly or more than the Silverstars and do not last much longer either.

It would be nice to get 2-3 years lifespan if paying $60+ for bulbs.

I think they are an improvement over stock, but nothing spectacular and nothing like you can get from HIDs. It's a reasonable change but I would not expect earth-shattering results. For me, they are fine for my driving and if I'm in a super-rural area I'll use my light bars if no traffic is in the area
