Questions Buying H3 Alpha Abroad in South America ....

I re-located to Latin America so I need to buy a Vehicle. I was looking at Mini Cooper S, then a Toyota FJ Cruiser, and now a 2009 H3 Alpha but it's crazy expensive because import taxes and this reflects price. I've seen a few Hummers here and people say they are not a problem. Car jackings are not that common but petty theft is. Anyway, they are asking $128M CP or $50k USD. Small cars are the norm as they are easy to park and cheap to keep but being an H3 Guy in the U.S., I like the secure feeling of a Hummer, and the Alpha is the real deal. What you guys think? Should I pull the trigger on this Alpha or buy a smaller, cheaper vehicle?

In truth... I would go FJ. It is way cheaper and parts would probably be easier to find, central & south America are heavy with Toyota's. Although I would be great to own a hummer out there but the added cost and inconvenience is not worth it, at least not in that area.

I agree with can007... Lol it's not y'all's money he's spending so of course you guys are gonna say hummer but 50k for a used alpha is just ridiculous. And parts and repairs are probably gonna be really expensive too. Unless h3ray is like a millionaire there I would say go with fj.

The only toyota I would want if I lived in another country would be a hilux, just because I have good memories of driving them around. Id go with the alpha over the fj cruiser. Money doesn't make me happy but buying a hummer with money does.

The FJ Cruiser way cheaper. Hummer's stand out. Gas not cheap. But, Alpha would be cool. Hilux is junk.

The FJ is the sound choice short and long term cost. Plus the FJ is a very 4x4 capable suv. I am not the type person that hates simply to hate, the FJ has great reviews and the Toyota has dependable motor. I wouldn't mind a V6 motor.

Having lived in those parts before, I humbly offer this advice: buy something that blends in with your environment. A Mitsubishi Montero, old FJ or old Dodge/GM pickup would bring much less visibility, especially as a "rich foreigner". A VW or Fiat may be a better car unless you find yourself out in the jungle needing 4wd.
